Character of a man is the combination and collection of many qualities and traits like nature, personal appearance, way of behaviour and mental reactions to the situations and circumstances.
In the 17th century the word "CHARACTER" came to be associated with "The sum of qualities that defines a person". These qualities included a man's intellect, thoughts, ideas, motives, intension, temperament, judgement, behaviour, imaginations, perceptions, emotion, loves and hates. The balance of these components within the soul of each man, and the way one or another predominates over others, is what makes a character UNIQUE and sets apart one individual from another.
There are two kinds of Character traits-the ones that have to do with being a morally good or bad person, and the ones that do not. Clearly honesty contributes to being a good person and dishonesty contributes to being a bad person. But consider CREATIVITY. By itself it could be used in either a good or bad way. Someone may Creatively come up with new solutions to problems of famine or opioid addiction. Or someone might creatively come up with new ways to torture innocent people or develop weapons of mass destruction. Another example is like that there can be a person who might easily get influenced by the opinion of other people while there would be one who would hold on to his own opinion. THE ONE WILL BE CALLED AS A MAN OF WEAK WILL WHILE THE OTHER OF A STRONG WILL.Will power is a very important factor in determining characters. In this way, it is on the basis of one's character that a man would be judged character reflects the man and man is reflected in the character.
Character was split into good and bad, personality into famous and infamous; in a culture of personality you can be famous without having done anything to earn it. And Character strength's are not about ignoring the negative. Instead, they help us to overcome life's inevitable adversities. For example, you can't be brave without first feeling fear; you can't show perseverance without first wanting to quit; you can't show self-control without first being tempted to do something you know shouldn't.
But sometime's there may be instances of loose moral characters. Most often there are just rumors and guess-works which are deliberately engineered to malign a person out of jealousy or animosity. One should think twice before casting aspersions on anybody. We must accept all such rumors with a grain of salt. In any case, a man of character is bound to come out of the dark clouds as the sun appears bright in the sky.
Our Character qualities guide our responses to the situations and circumstances we faced in our lives. They are why we do the things we do and they are why we do the things the way, we do them. And, since how we respond to the various situations and circumstances that come into our lives in what determines the results we get, our success really depends on our character traits. That's why it is so important that we work on developing good character traits.
As society shifted from producing to consuming, ideas of what constituted the self began to transform. The rise of Psychology, the introduction of mass-produced consumer goods, and the expansion of leisure time offered people new ways of forming their identity and presenting it to the world. In place of determining themselves through the cultivation of virtue, people's hobbies, dress and material possessions became the new means of defining and expressing the self.
